Tabraiz Mahi carpets have a high density of knots. This classic design comes from the 1500s, the word “Mahi” translates to fish from the Persian language. The symbolism of the fish in Persian culture stands for celebration. The overall design of the carpet originates from the Herati region of present-day Afghanistan.
