Qum is a holy city for Shia Islam, carpets made in Qum are not only famous in Persia, but also all over the world. This is a fine example of silk from a golden cocoon with one of the highest number of knots per square inch. Normally knot counts range between 800-1000 knots/sq inch. All of the dyes are taken from plant roots and flowers like saffron.
